John A. Potter of Westport, son of John Potter of Westport in the county of Bristol and state of Massachusetts, and Rhoda, his wife, and Rebekah Tripp, daughter of Philip Tripp of Troy in the county of Bristol, and Margaret his wife ["deceased" - superscript added] having declared their intention of taking each other in marriage before the Monthly Meeting of the the people called Quakers, in Westport according to the good order used among them; their proceedings, after due enquiry and deliberate consideration thereof, were allowed by said Meeting; they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parents. Now these [????] to certify to all whom it may concern, that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions, this twenty-seventh day of the fifth month, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty, they, the said John A. Potter and Rebekah Tripp, appeared at a public assembly of the afore said people and others, in the Meeting house in Westport; and he the said John A. Potter taking the said Rebekah Tripp by the hand, did openly declare as followeth:

Friends, I take this, my friend Rebekah Tripp, to be my wife, promising through divine assistance to be unto her a loving and faithful husband; until it shall please the Lord by death to separate us. And the said Rebekah Tripp did then and there in like manner declare as followeth: Friends, I take this, my friend John A. Potter, to be my husband, promising through divine assistance to be unto him a loving and faithful wife; until it shall please the Lord by death to:

And we whose names are hereunto subscribed, being present with others as the solemnisation of their said marriage, as witnesses thereunto, set our hands the day and year above written.
